Response to Fritz Edlinger (Die Presse) and Volker Berthes (Süddeutsche Zeitung) on Syria

Thank-you Fritz Edlinger for sticking to the UN-Charta and International Law. Thank-you for reminding us that R2P is not part of it.
But we must underline that  the basic consensus that enabled the framing of the UN-Charta in 1945 is not the last outdated.  On the contrary, it  is more necessary than ever to remind us of its peace-enabling  content. The  members of the UN-Security Council are not of one evil imperialist spirit. Fortunately China and Russia resist with their moderate means their opposition to  the war policies of their colleagues through their double veto. This double veto must be underlined by all peace forces in the world and understood as support.

Mr. Perthe you teach us an important lesson as far as you point out the driving forces behind those who want to undo secularism. Those who are  supporting fundamentalist religious ideas in the world act in the interest of the zionist state. Your call upon the ironic turn which might  help Israel to survive  as a religious Jewish state if more outspoken islamic regimes came into being in the Middle East. This would of course by no means be a solution of the conflicts at stake  but a horror scenario.
Your  objections to a military solution are to be supervised in so far as the legitimate government has the right and the duty to protect its citizens by all  means at her disposal. Remember how Germany reacted with respect to a much lesser challenge in the 70ies.  All parties have to express their will for a peaceful solution by not supporting the continuation of  the war mongers by providing them with even more weaponry. However, there is a very specific difference between  supplying armed rebells who act against a legitimate government and who have already committed atrocious acts of barbarism and weapon delivery to an elected government in accordance with international treaties.

Let us be precise and stick to the truth, which will guide us towards peaceful solutions that we all are striving for. The truth  is always concrete. Supporting the terrorists in a foreign souvereign state is not compatible with international law.
