The United States and its allies are responsible for the destruction of Syria during the country’s four-year conflict, a former American intelligence linguist in Florida says.
“The US, Turkey, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and European Union NATO allies and other [Persian] Gulf state allies in the region have been absolutely decimating Syria,” Scott Rickard told Press TV on Monday. “Nearly three quarters of the country have been destroyed and over half of the population has been displaced.”
“The US government is obviously not conducting itself in an ethical way and it’s certainly creating a terrible atrocity not only in Syria, but in other countries where they’re operating with the same horrific foreign policy,” Rickard said.
US Secretary of State John Kerry’s recent remarks that Washington is working to avoid the “total destruction” of Syria is “absolutely absurd and hypocritical,” Rickard noted.
“Once again we see the Americans talking out the side of their mouth, skewing lies left and right,” he added.
Kerry said on Monday that the US wants to avoid the "complete and total destruction" of Syria, and plans a meeting in the coming days with Russian, Saudi and Turkish leaders to seek an end to the conflict.
"I will be coming back in a few days and I will meet with leaders of Russia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Jordan to work through... options that could perhaps reignite the political process and bring about a political transition in Syria," he told reporters in Madrid, Spain.
Kerry also said there was no military solution to the conflict and that “propping up [President Bashar al-] Assad will ultimately fail.”
The US and its regional allies, including Turkey and Saudi Arabia, have been backing militants fighting the Syrian government.
