Moscow: Commitment to Russian- US agreements would improve the situation in Syria
Moscow, SANA- Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that commitment to Russian- US agreements regarding the cessation of hostilities in Syria and combating terrorism would contribute to improving the situation in Syria and finding a political solution to the crisis in it.
Zakharova, at a weekly press briefing in Moscow, added that eliminating terrorists will lead to creating conditions through which the Syrian people will be able to determine, peacefully and democratically, the future of their country in accordance with resolution No.2254 and decisions of International Support Syria Group and Geneva statement for 2012.
She stressed the importance of launching a comprehensive intra-Syrian dialogue on the basis mentioned above under the supervision UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura without any preconditions.
“We are preparing for our participation in a high-level meeting, “Zakharova said, adding that preparations are underway to hold high-level talks next week between Russia, the United States and the United Nations in Geneva, noting that the intensive contacts in Geneva regarding Syria come as a result of the recent meeting between Russian Foreign minister Sergei Lavrov and his US counterpart John Kerry in Moscow.
“Moscow hopes the US side would fulfill its obligations regarding the separation between moderate opposition and Jabhat al-Nusra, there is no place for terrorists in the future of Syria”, Zakharova told journalists during the press briefing.
