Russia & China know the world’s problems ‘much better’ than US – Cuba’s Fidel
Russia and China are the countries that will preserve global peace and stability as they have experienced the hardships of war against fascism, former Cuban leader Fidel Castro wrote in a letter to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
Both Russia and China “know the world’s problems much better than the United States,” the leader of the Cuban revolution wrote on Friday. This is “because they were obliged to endure the terrible wars imposed on them by fascism’s blind egoism,” Cuba’s Granma newspaper reports.
Therefore it’s up to Russia and China, “given their historical traditions and revolutionary experience to make the greatest effort to avoid war and contribute to the peaceful development of Venezuela, Latin America, Asia and Africa,” Fidel’s letter continued.
“Security does not exist today for anyone,” Fidel said. He explained it was because nine states possess nuclear weapons, with only one of them – the US – actually using them, when it “dropped two bombs [Japan, 1945] which killed hundreds of thousands of people in just three days.”
The letter from the legendary Cuban leader also praised President Maduro, who recognized the results of Sunday’s parliamentary elections in which the Venezuelan opposition seized a two-thirds majority in the country’s National Assembly. Maduro’s governing United Socialist Party of Venezuela won 46 seats losing its majority in the parliament, as the opposition coalition took 99 seats, according to teleSUR.
Ties between Cuba and Venezuela have become increasingly close over the past few years. Caracas sells oil to the island at favorable rates and invests in Cuba’s oil industry. In return, Cuba contributes to Venezuelan healthcare and social security with over 40,000 Cuban doctors operating in the country.
Both Latin American nations enjoy warm relations with Moscow. Russia has invested in Cuban and Venezuelan industries and delivered state-of-the-art military hardware to modernize the two countries’ defense forces.
