PressTV - The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) says more than 300 more Palestinians have sustained injuries in a day during clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and blockaded Gaza Strip.
The al-Bireh-based humanitarian organization said a total of 326 Palestinians were wounded during Tuesday skirmishes in the Palestinian territories, bringing to 3,730 the number of those injured since October 1 .
At least thirteen Palestinians were shot by live rounds, while at least 84 others were hit by rubber-coated steel bullets, according to the organization.
The PRCS added that 229 Palestinians also suffered excessive tear gas inhalation.
On Tuesday, hundreds of university students marched towards a military checkpoint in the northern part of al-Khalil (Hebron), where they faced Israeli forces shooting live and rubber-coated bullets.
Five people were injured with live rounds, while 16 others were struck by rubber-coated bullets.
In Bethlehem, 27-year-old Mutaz Ibrahim Zawahreh sustained a gunshot wound to his chest. Being in critical condition, he was ferried to hospital where he later succumbed to death due to the severity of the injury. Dozens more were wounded by rubber-coated bullets and suffered tear gas inhalation.
The Palestine Red Crescent Society further noted that at least 18 Palestinians were shot with live fire in the Gaza Strip, while a further 43 were injured by rubber-coated bullets.
The recent deadly tension between the Tel Aviv regime and Palestinians was triggered by Israel’s imposition of sweeping restrictions on entries into the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East al-Quds (Jerusalem) on August 26 and Israeli settlers’ repeated attacks on the sacred site.
Palestinians are furious at the settler violence and a plan by Israelis to change the status quo of the mosque that is Islam’s third holiest site after Masjid al-Haram in Mecca and Masjid al-Nabawi in Medina. The site is also highly respected by Jews and Christians.
