All the three terrorists who killed 12 and injured 11 people in Paris on January 7 had been previously known to the French police, France’s BMF TV international news channel reported without confirming that the suspects had been detained.
“All the three, as police suspected, had been linked to recruitment of volunteers for the Jihad war in 2003-2005. They were also suspected of complicity to organization of a 2010 criminal operation to release a number of terrorists who had been kept in French prisons since 1995 but the attempt had failed,” the channel’s crime expert said.
Three unknown gunmen attacked the office of the Paris-based Charlie Hebdo satirical weekly paper that had outraged Muslims by printing caricatures of Prophet Muhammad on Wednesday morning. According to the latest reports, 12 people were killed. They include ten journalists and two policemen who guarded the editorial office’s building. Another eleven people were injured.
The January 7th attack has become the most high-profile terrorist act in France over the past 50 years. A three-day national mourning has been announced in the country.
French President Francois Hollande is to hold an emergency meeting with the heads of the key security and police agencies at the Elysee Palace on Thursday.
