US starts to be dissatisfied with Ukraine’s current authorities News | 26.04.2014 | 23:05

It looks like the US and Europe are already starting to become disappointed with Ukraine’s new authorities, which came in apparent enough at least following the recent visit of US Vice President Joseph Biden to Ukraine.
During this visit, Mr. Biden promised that the US would render a $ 50 mln financial aid to Ukraine. However, Ukraine’s state debts now count several billion dollars.
It looks like the US authorities are starting to come to the conclusion that there are quite a few rather dubious people among Ukraine’s new “rulers” and that tough control is needed over them.
Some observers are calling Joseph Biden’s visit to Ukraine a sort of compensation of the West to the Ukrainian authorities after the adoption of the Geneva agreements. The US even failed to introduce an article granting territorial integrity to Ukraine into these agreements.
Russian political analyst Grigory Trofimchuk says:
"The US authorities are starting to realize themselves that in the current situation, they cannot render any serious help to Ukraine. Neither did Joseph Biden’s visit result into any feasible help. As far as I know, he didn’t bring a plane stuffed with dollars with him. However, by sending such a high-ranking official to Ukraine, the US authorities tried to show to the Ukrainian ones how allegedly important the Ukrainian issue is for the US. Joseph Biden is Vice President. The only person with a higher post than his one in the US is the President himself."
According to Ukrainian media sources, Ukraine’s authorities expected much from the meeting between Mr. Biden and Ukraine’s Acting President Alexander Turchinov. However, the only result from this meeting was that the US Vice President just gave several promises. Namely, the US is promising to help Ukraine presume its territorial integrity.

According to Ukrainian media sources, Ukraine’s authorities expected much from the meeting between Mr. Biden and Ukraine’s Acting President Alexander Turchinov. However, the only result from this meeting was that the US Vice President just gave several promises. Namely, the US is promising to help Ukraine presume its territorial integrity, to help it become lesser dependent from Russian gas and to give Ukrane $ 50 mln to help it in holding reforms. For Ukraine, which is now on the brink of a financial crisis, this would be a miserly sum.
"The reason why the US is allocating so little on reforms in Ukraine is probably that the US has serious doubts whether this money would be used effectually or whether Ukraine would ever pay it back," Russian expert in energy policy Sergey Pravosudov supposes.
"$ 50 mln is a too small sum for Ukraine to solve all its financial problems," Mr. Pravosudov continues. "Ukraine already owes $ 2.2 bln to Russia for gas. Thus, Mr. Biden’s visit to Ukraine is only a show for public acclaim. A similar show has already been "performed" by Hilary Clinton who came to Ukraine and said that Ukraine’s main riches are… shale gas and chocolate. However, nobody has discovered any shale gas in Ukraine so far. As for chocolate, Ms. Clinton probably mentioned it because Pyotr Poroshenko, a candidate for presidency in Ukraine who is actively supported by the US, is also one of the country’s largest producers of chocolate. Ms. Clinton must be knowing very little about the real situation in Ukraine if she says such things."
It is already becoming evident that the situation in Ukraine is going out of control of the US authorities. A recent statement of Ron Paul, a well-known American libertarian, is some evidence that the US has already started to deviate from its former anti-Russian position. Commenting on the fact that the Crimean Peninsula, a part of Ukraine until recently, has become a part of Russia, Mr. Paul wrote: "What’s the big deal? Why does the US care which flag will be hoisted on a small piece of land thousands of miles away?"
