Women's Statement on Ukraine

Statement on Ukraine from European Women, Meeting in Berlin, March 20th-23rd 2014

"On Februrary 22nd a violent and illegal coup d'etat took place in Ukraine. The self declared „government“, including a high percentage of right wing radical ministers has no legal backing.

We condemn the interfence in internal Ukrainian affairs as by the EU and respective official representatives of various European countries and the US. We respect the right of the citizens of the autonomous Republic Crimea to decide democratically about their own future. We respect the results of the referendum of March 16th as having been  in line with democratic procedures.

We demand from our elected polticians to do likewise and to return to a culture of dialogue and diplomacy, which includes refraining from threats and sanctions towards their "Russian partners". We demand to not apply double standards and  to respect international law.

As women, having worked  for peace  for many years, we condemn all methods of violence within the political arena. We condemn racist and discriminatory politics everywhere as not not compatible with the UN Charta and the  Universal Declaration of Human Rigths of 1948 as with  its follow up conventants and conventions."
