“Ever since I was a child I loved the work of the Civil Defense. I would follow the fire trucks through the streets on my bicycle”, says Jamal Sehwail (55), who is now the Director of Evacuation and Development in Gaza’s Civil Defense....   ...Jamal refers to incidents over the past years, especially during ‘Operation Cast Lead’,Israel’s 27 December 2008 – 18 January 2009 offensive on the Gaza Strip in which 1,419 Palestinians were killed.   “Paramedics, journalists, and us, civil defense staff, are supposed to be protected under the Fourth Geneva Convention. But we are attacked by the army nonetheless. In reality the Geneva Conventions do not exist. Israel has conveyed that message very clearly to us by targeting our staff and buildings; there is no safety from the Israeli army attacks...

 Settlers Burn Palestinian Agricultural Lands Near Nablus. by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC
 
....Local sources reported that the armed settlers burnt the agricultural lands, and prevented the villagers from reaching their lands to put the fire off.  Bashar Qaryouty, coordinator of the Popular Committee against the Wall and Settlements in Qaryout village, reported that the burnt lands were planted with wheat and olive trees. Qaryouty added that the size of the torched lands is approximately 25 Dunams (6.17 Acres), and added that the Israeli army eventually called for an Israeli fire truck as the fires approached the Shiloh illegal settlement, built on the villagers’ lands....

Israel’s Deficit Cure: New Taxes on Occupied Palestinians. By Jason Ditz
Ongoing budget talks in Israel have begun to coalesce around a scheme to unilaterally amend the Oslo Accords with a provision allowing the Israeli Defense Ministry to impose “tolls” on Palestinians in the occupied territories for allowing them to import and export goods.  The tolls would be justified, according to officials, because of the intense “inspection” process Israel puts anything that enters the occupied West Bank through. That this service isn’t requested nor desired by the Palestinian Authority appears to be irrelevant....
