Die Meldungen über die geplante Lieferung deutscher Kriegsschiffe an Israel zum Schleuderpreis machen sprachlos. Der völlig unverhältnismäßige Krieg gegen das Getto Gaza ist gerade einmal zwei Monate vorbei. Die israelische Marine feuerte in diesem Krieg täglich aus allen Rohren auf die Eingekesselten von Gaza. Sie zerstörte unzählige Wohnhäuser. Am 16. Juli tötete sie am Strand vier kleine Fußball spielende Kinder. (Siehe Foto). -  Kein einzigesder zertrümmerten Häuser von Gaza ist wieder aufgebaut. Die Not der Menschen ist nicht gelindert. Israel beteiligt sich nicht mit einem Cent am Wiederaufbau. Obwohl es die Hauptschuld an den katastrophalen Verwüstungenträgt. Stattdessen baut Israel auf der Westbank weiter illegale Siedlungen auf palästinensischem Gebiet. Landraub unter den Augen der Welt.  -  Deutschlands Reaktion auf diese friedensfeindliche Politik? Die Bundesregierung plant, neue Kriegsschiffe an Israel zu liefern. Subventioniert mit 300 Mio € Steuergeldern. Das ist kein Beitrag zum Frieden. Das ist die subventionierte Beerdigung der Zweistaaten-Lösung. Ein verheerendes Signal! Eigentlich unfassbar! JT
PS: Heute Nacht nahm die israelische Marine sechs Fischer aus Gaza fest und warf sie ins Gefängnis. Sie gehören zu der Familie, deren Kinder die Marine am 16.Juli am Strand erschossen hatte!

Raketenboot-Krise endet als die BRD Israel $ 382 Millionen Preisnachlass gibt.

 

....Haaretz berichtete, dass das Geschäft etwa  900 Millionen Euro wert ist. Israel bat um einen 30%igen Nachlass des Preises, wie es dies bei früheren Geschäften mit deutschen U-Booten  erhalten hat. Der deutsche Rabatt kommt einem Kredit von hundert Millionen Euros gleich. Es war  Teil einer Politik von Kanzlerin Merkel, um Israels "Sicherheit" zu schützen.

Anfang Mai, etwa 2 Wochen nachdem die Gespräche zwischen Israel und den Palästinensern stockte, sprach  derdeutsche National Sicherheitsberater Christoph Heusgen mit seinem israelischen Kollegen Yossi Cohen, dass Israel den Rabatt nicht erhalten würde, sondern den ganzen Preis zahlen muss.   Heusgen sagte, dass dem Misserfolg der Friedensgespräche mit den Palästinensern und der harten Kritik Deutschland an Israels Siedlungsbau, der Bundestag nicht damit einverstanden ist, mit Hunderten Millionen Euros  die Boote bezuschussen würde....   ....:„Obwohl sie viel Kritik hatte - wenn es  um Israels "Sicherheit" geht, ist das nicht mehr wichtig. Eine Anzahl fanatischer Siedler überfiel in der  Nacht zum Donnerstag  das Ishaquyya-Areal der Ibrahim-Moschee in der südlichen Westbank-Stadt von Hebron, das für muslimischen Gottesdienst bestimmt ist.  Lokale Quellen berichten, dass Dutzende von Soldaten Siedler begleiteten,  den Moschee-Wächter verhafteten, während die Siedler in die Moschee stürmten.   Der Chef des Islamischen Waqf und der Stiftungsabteilung in Hebron Taisseer Abu Sneina sagte, der Überfall sei eine sehr ernste Eskalation, besonders, seitdem die Soldaten die Wächter der Moschee verhaftet haben. Das könnte sehr schwere Folgen haben.    „Dies ist ein Versuch, alle Muslime von der Moschee fern zu halten; der Angriff ist nicht ein einzelner Vorfall, sondern Teil fortlaufender Verletzungen!“ sagte er....

“Why do the German elites once again want war?” A Meeting of Trotskyites at Berlin's Humboldt UNiversity

Packed IYSSE meeting at Humboldt University in Berlin

On Thursday, the International Youth and Students for Social Equality (IYSSE) held a very successful meeting at Humboldt University in Berlin. Some 200 people, including many students from Humboldt, as well as groups of students from other universities in Berlin, apprentices and workers filled the meeting room to capacity. The attendance was especially significant because the university administration had sought to censor the meeting.

There was enormous interest in the subject of the meeting: “Why do the German elites once again want war?” Attendees said they had seen placards advertising the meeting and decided spontaneously: “I have to go.” The IYSSE, the youth movement of the Socialist Equality Party (Partei für Soziale Gleichheit—PSG), had previously held well-attended public meetings on the same topic in Frankfurt and Bochum. Further meetings are planned.

Peter Schwarz, a member of the Socialist Equality Party executive committee and secretary of the International Committee of the Fourth International, gave a comprehensive report, which was followed with great attentiveness by those present. The spokesman for the IYSSE at Humboldt University welcomed Schwarz, saying no one was better placed to answer the evening’s question. This was because, as a member of the World Socialist Web Site (WSWS) editorial board, Schwarz had played a major role in analysing the political and historical reasons for Germany’s renewed drive for world power.

At the outset, Schwarz stressed that there had been a fundamental change in Germany over the past year. “The German elites are suddenly calling for war,” he said. “Politicians are demanding military interventions and a program of rearmament. The media is propagandising against Russia and even news programmes like Tagesthemen are mainly churning out propaganda.”

Many people are deeply concerned about these developments, he continued, and the majority of the population opposes them. However, a deeper historical understanding and a political perspective to struggle against war is lacking.

In the first part of his presentation, Schwarz showed in detail how the return of German militarism was systematically prepared behind the backs of the people. For more than a year, representatives of political think tanks, government ministries, universities, party foundations, political parties, NGOs, corporations and the media had worked out a new foreign policy strategy under the direction of the government-aligned Stifftung Wissenschaft und Politik (Institute for International and Security Affairs) and the Washington-based German Marshall Fund think tank.

The strategy paper that emerged from the discussions, with the revealing title “New Power, New Responsibility,” called for Germany to take on more responsibility in leading military interventions, arguing that as a “trading and export country,” Germany, more than virtually any other country, was dependent on “demand from other markets, as well as access to international trade routes and raw materials.”

With the help of a PowerPoint presentation, Schwarz exposed the extent of the political conspiracy. “It is no accident,” he said, “that German President Joachim Gauck’s speech on October 3 last year corresponds almost word for word to the strategy paper ‘New Power, New Responsibility.’ Thomas Kleine-Brockhoff, one of the primary initiators of the project, now works as Guack’s speech writer in the president’s office.”

If one examined the list of those collaborating in the “New Power, New Responsibility” project, it came as no surprise that all of the parliamentary parties, the media and the universities had joined in the war offensive. The Left Party’s foreign policy advisor Stefan Liebich had taken part, as had Georg Nolte, a professor of international law at Humboldt University.

Schwarz explained that the discussions on a shift in foreign policy had by no means remained on the level of theory. “Since the new German government came to power,” he noted, “it has implemented this course with all its might. First, with the right-wing coup in Ukraine and the expansion of NATO military forces in Eastern Europe, and currently with the German intervention in the Middle East.”

Schwarz devoted the second part of his report to answering the question: “Why do the German elites once again want war?” He cited the resolution “The Return of German Imperialism and the Tasks of the Partei für Soziale Gleichheit,” which was adopted by the PSG at an emergency conference against war in September. A key passage reads: “The reason for the revival of German militarism is the historic crisis of global capitalism and the nation-state system upon which it rests.”

Schwarz explained that as at the beginning of the 20th century and in the 1930s, the German elites were responding to the crisis of world capitalism with an increasingly aggressive foreign policy. In 1932, Trotsky examined the objective driving forces that produced the rise of Hitler and described Germany as the “most progressive capitalism under conditions of the European dead-end.” As in the First and Second World Wars, the German elite was once again striving to dominate Europe in order to become a world power.

It was no exaggeration to speak of a direct line leading from the Wilhelmenian Reich, through the Third Reich, to the Foreign Ministry today under Steinmeier. As in the past, German imperialism had set itself the goal of integrating Ukraine, Georgia and other countries that had previously belonged to the Soviet Union or the Tsarist Empire into the German sphere of influence. Today, German imperialism uses for this purpose the European Union, which it dominates.

“In this,” Schwarz said, “it is cooperating closely with political forces such as the Svoboda Party and the Fatherland Party, which hail Skoropadsky and the Nazi collaborator Stepan Bandera as national heroes.”

Schwarz cited an essay on the official web site of the Foreign Ministry with the revealing title, “Germany’s destiny: lead Europe in order to lead the world.” Another example was the recent book by former Green Party leader Joschka Fischer with the title Will Europe Fail? In it, the former foreign minister writes: “Two decades after Germany’s second unification, Germany and Europe have once again been overtaken by the old contradiction of Germany’s central position: Germany is and remains too large for Europe but too small for the world, too small for an independent world political role.”

Schwarz showed how the return of German imperialist politics was combined with a revision of history. Right at Humboldt University, he said, there were professors such as political scientist Herfried Münckler and the head of the Department for the History of Eastern Europe, Jörg Baberowski, who were systematically working to revise the previous understanding of the origins of both world wars and Germany’s responsibility. Both were using their academic positions to publicly beat the drum for a more aggressive German foreign policy.

In this context, Schwarz discussed the conflict between the IYSSE and the university administration in the lead-up to the meeting. The administration had attempted to politically censor the IYSSE meeting, he explained, by presenting the critique of the right-wing professors as an “insult” and “smear that violated the standards of academic discourse.”

Schwarz firmly rejected this accusation. The IYSSE had never insulted or smeared anyone, but merely “very soberly and objectively analysed what the Humboldt professors Münckler and Baberowski said on talk shows, in radio interviews and newspaper articles, and in public panel discussions.”

Baberowski’s statements were particularly scandalous. Students did not only have the right, but also the duty to protest against them, Schwarz declared. He presented several citations.

On February 10 of this year, Baberowski stated in Der Spiegel: “Hitler was not a psychopath, he was not evil. He did not want the extermination of the Jews to be discussed at his table.”

At the beginning of October, in a public discussion at the German Historical Museum on military combat against non-state actors such as ISIS and the Taliban, Baberowski said, “And if one is not prepared to take hostages, burn down villages and hang people, and spread terror and fear as the terrorists do, if one isn’t prepared to do that, one will not win such a conflict.”

In concluding his report, Schwarz posed the decisive question: “What is to be done against war and the return of German militarism?” He said the struggle against war was inseparable from the mobilisation of the working class on the basis of a socialist and internationalist programme. “There can be no struggle for socialism without a struggle against war, and in turn, no struggle against war without a fight for socialism,” he declared.

“The PSG and its youth organisation, the IYSSE, base the struggle against militarism and war theoretically, politically and organisationally on the working class,” Schwarz said.

He continued: “As an international class, it is the only force capable of preventing a Third World War. Its interests bring it into conflict with the capitalist system. But the socialist revolution is not an automatic process. The determination of its tempo and its success falls to the arena of politics. As Trotsky wrote on the eve of World War II, the historical crisis of humanity is summed up in the crisis of revolutionary leadership. The resolution of this crisis depends upon the decisions, actions and building of our party.”

Due to the great interest in the presentation, it was agreed to hold a follow-up meeting on Monday to continue the discussion.

Er ist sehr populär zu Hause, wird als anständig, bescheiden, und bewundernswert angesehen, und die Russen können nicht verstehen, wie es zu so einem Unterschied zu westlichen Darstellungen kommt.

Vor kurzem haben führende russische Kommentatoren und Politiker suggeriert, dass dies nur erklärt werden kann durch eine gezielte Kampagne zur Verleumdung Putins durch Regierungen und andere Gruppen.

Gestern hat, bei einem Treffen mit ausländischen Journalisten, Sergej Iwanow, Putins Stabschef, der als zweitstärkster Mann in Russland angesehen werden kann, von einem Informationskrieg gesprochen, der aus persönlichen Attacken gegen Putin besteht.

Yesterday, at a briefing to foreign journalists, Sergey Ivanov, Putin’s chief of staff, arguably the 2nd most powerful man in Russia, spoke of an “information war” consisting of “personal attacks” on Putin.

Einen Tag vorher hat ein anderes Mitglied von Putins innerem Zirkel, Wjatscheslaw Wolodin, ähnliche Bemerkungen gemacht. Ausländischen Journalisten sagte er, “eine Attacke gegen Putin ist eine Attacke gegen Russland”.

Die Logik, so wird argumentiert, ist, dass man durch Defamierung des Führers eines Landes seine Macht im Land schwächt, durch Unterminierung seiner Unterstützung durch das Volk, und international, durch das Sammeln populärer Unterstützung für Politik gegen dieses Land. Das endgültige Ziel ist die Schwächung des Landes selbst. Es ginge auch um Regimewechsel.

Sie argumentieren, dass, wenn man sich die Fakten ansieht, es genügend Indizien von laufenden Anschlägen auf sein Persönlichkeitsbild gibt, die nicht durch einen vagen populären Zeitgeist im Westen erklärbar sind, sondern sehr viel wahrscheinlicher Ergebnis von gezielten Anstrengungen um diese Defamierungen in den Nachrichtenstrom einfließen zu lassen.

Über die Frage nach der Manipulation von Nachrichten durch Geheimdienste wurde vor kurzem berichtet im Zusammenhang mit Informationen, dass der CIA und der deutsche Geheimdienst lang laufende Programme hätten um zu beeinflussen, wie die Medien und Top-Journalisten die Nachrichten darstellen und interpretieren, was direkte Geldzahlungen einschließt.

Hier einige Beispiele die genannt wurden:

• Er wird als hinterhältiger Diktator dargestellt, der ein repressives Imperium wiederherstellen will.
• Es wird behauptet, er hätte persönlich den Mord an einigen Journalisten angeordnet, und persönlich angeordnet, ein KGB-Überläufer solle durch radioaktive Vergiftung ermordet werden.
• Häufig werden substanzlose Gerüchte, dass er eine Affäre mit einem berühmten Turner hätte, verbreitet.
• Behauptungen er habe Milliarden für sich selbst beiseite geschafft, ohne dass dies belegt wird.
• Behauptungen in einem kürzlichen Newsweek-Artikel, er würde ein luxeriösen und faulenzerischen Lebenswandel führen, spät schlafen gehen.
• Ein kürzlicher Artikel in der NYT die persönliche Arroganz unterstellt.
• Hillary Clinton erwähnt in jeder Rede, dass er ein schlechter Mensch sei, ein Drangsalierer, dem man mit Härte begegnen müsste.
• Häufige Verwendung von beleidigenden Worten um seine Person zu beschreiben – “Narr und Gangster” (Thomas Friedman diese Woche in der NYT).
• Falschzitate was sein Bedauern des Zerfalls der Sowjetunion betrifft.
• Artikel über eine angebliche Super-Luxusvilla die für ihn in Südrussland gebaut wurde.
• Die völlig überzogenen Überschriften in westlichen Medien (am schlimmsten von allen in Deutschland) die ihn selbst als persönlich verantwortlich für den Mord an den Opfern von MH17 machen.
• Und weiche Methoden – Bilder in Magazinen die ihn finster und monströs aussehen lassen, usw..

RI hat sich mit dem Saker zusammengesetzt, einem führenden Analytiker zu Russland in internationalen Angelegenheiten, und ihn gefragt was er denkt:

Scheint diese Argumentation glaubwürdig, oder sind das amoklaufende Konspirationstheoretiker?

Für mich besteht kein Zweifel, dass die USA einen großen Psy-Op Krieg gegen Russland führen, wenn auch keinen Krieg mit klassischen Waffen, bis jetzt, und das was wir sehen ist eine gezielte Kampagne um Putin zu diskreditieren und einen Regimewechsel in Russland zu erreichen, oder, sollte dies scheitern, zumindest das Regime und Russland zu schwächen.

Das ist also ein US-Regierungsprogramm?

Ja, Putin ist absolut verhasst von einigen Fraktionen der US-Regierung, aus zwei Gründen:

1. er hat teilweise, wenn auch nicht vollständig, Russlands Souveränität wiederhergestellt, die unter Gorbatschow und Jelzin völlig verlorengegangen war. Russland war damals eine US-Kolonie wie es die Ukraine jetzt ist, und,

2. er hat sich getraut, sich offen der USA und ihrem Zivilisationsmodell zu widersetzen.

Ein freies und souveränes Russland wird vom US-”tiefen Staat” als existenzielle Bedrohung angesehen, welche vernichtet werden muss. Das ist ein Anschlag auf Russland und Putin persönlich auf voller Breite.

Also was die Russen sagen, dass die ständigen persönlichen Attacke gegen Putin in den globalen Medien teilweise das Ergebnis gezielter Bemühungen der US Geheimdienste sind … im Grunde untergeschobenes Material …

Ja, absolut.

Sieht aus wie “Operation Mockingbird” wieder einmal … Wissen Sie von anderen gegen Putin gerichteten Instanzen?

(Hinweis des Editors: “Operation Mockingbird” war ein CIA-Programm, welches in den 50er Jahren gestartet wurde um US-Medien zu beeinflussen, welches in den 60er Jahren teilweise von investigativen Journalisten aufgedeckt wurde, was in sensationellen vom Fernsehen übertragenen Kongressanhörungen 1975, welche die Nation schockierten und zum Abbruch des Programms führten, kulminierten. Kritiker sind überzeugt, dass dieselben Taktiken weiter fortgesetzt wurden, unter anderem Namen. Wikipedia.)

Ja, natürlich. Weil die Diffamierung wenig Zugkraft in der russischen Bevölkerung hat … Putins Beliebtheit ist größer als jemals zuvor … gibt es eine organisierte Kampagne um das Publikum zu überzeugen dass er Neurussland “verkauft”, dass er eine Marionette der Oligarchen sei, die Abmachungen mit den ukrainischen Oligarchen treffen um dem neurussischen Widerstand in den Rücken zu fallen …

… Bis jetzt hat Putins Politik in der Ukraine sehr starke Unterstützung durch das russische Volk, welches immer noch gegen eine offene militärische Intervention ist…

… aber wenn Kiew Neurussland wieder angreift – was sehr wahrscheinlich ist – und wenn solch ein Angriff Erfolg hat – was weniger wahrscheinlich aber immer möglich ist – wird Putin beschuldigt werden, den Ukrainern Zeit zur Umgruppierung und Reorganisation gegeben zu haben.

Sie sagen also dass wenn das ukrainische Militär seine Position genug stärkt um die Ostukrainer deutlich zu schädigen, kann die USA dies nutzen als eine Methode um Putins Unterstützungsbasis zu beschädigen …

Ja, das stimmt. …. es gibt eine Menge “Falschpatrioten” in Russland und Umgebung die jede Verhandlungslösung ablehnen und jeden Kompromiss als “Verrat” darstellen. Die sind “nützliche Idioten”, die vom westlichen Geheimdienst benutzt werden, um Putin zu verleumden und zu unterminieren.

Ist dies auf Regierungs-Spezialoperationen beschränkt, oder gibt es auch andere Gruppen, die ein Interesse daran haben?

Ja, dahinter steht etwas was die meisten Leute im Westen nicht mitkriegen … es gibt einen großen Kampf hinter den Kulissen innerhalb der russischen Eliten zwischen denen die ich “eurasische Souveränisten” nenne (im Grunde die Unterstützer von Putin) und die ich die “atlantischen Integrationisten” nenne (die, die Putin die “5. Kolonne” nennt).

Die westlichen Medien schreiben darüber als über den Kampf zwischen russischen Liberalen und Konservativen, Reformern und Reaktionären, richtig?

Ja so ungefähr, aber nicht exakt ….

Die ersten sehen Russlands Zukunft im Norden und Osten und wollen Russland in Richtung Asien, Lateinamerika und den Rest der Welt wenden, während die letzteren wollen, dass Russland Teil der nordatlantischen Machtkonfiguration wird.

Die atlantischen Integrationisten sind jetzt zu schwach um Putin offen herauszufordern – dessen Machtbasis seine immense Unterstützung durch das Volk ist – aber sie sabotieren seine Versuche, Russland zu reformieren, während sie Anti-Putin-Kampagnen unterstützen.

Was die CIA-Aktivitäten in Deutschland betrifft, glauben Sie dass dies auch in anderen Ländern passiert, und in den USA?

Ich bin sicher, dass dies in vielen Ländern weltweit geschieht. Die Natur der modernen Massenmedien ist so dass sie Journalisten korrumpiert.

Wie der französische Philosoph Alain Soral sagt, ist “ein Journalist heute entweder beschäftigungslos oder ein Prostituierter”. Es gibt, natürlich, ein paar wenige Ausnahmen, aber im Großen und Ganzen stimmt das.

Das heißt nicht, dass die meisten Journalisten sich bestechen lassen. Im Westen ist dies meist subtiler organisiert – es wird klargemacht, welche Ideen durch die Kontrolle der Editoren kommen und welche nicht, indem die Journalisten, die “es verstehen”, freigiebig belohnt werden, und die, die das nicht tun, still entfernt werden.

Wenn ein Journalist oder Reporter das Verbrechen des “Kriminelldenkens” begeht, wird er oder sie an die Seite gedrängt und bald ohne Arbeit sein.

Es gibt keinen realen Pluralismus im Westen, wo die Grenzen dessen, was gesagt werden darf oder nicht, sehr strikt fixiert sind.

Ok, aber ist es so wie es in Deutschland aufgedeckt wurde … entsprechende spezifische Operationsprogramme in Frankreich, Italien, Lateinamerika usw.

Ja, das kann man annehmen – es ist in ihrem Interesse, sie zu haben, und es gibt keinen Grund es nicht zu tun.

Was die CIA betrifft, so kontrolliert sie genug der Medienkonzerne um den “Ton zu setzen”. Als jemand, dessen Job es in der Vergangenheit war, die Sowjetpresse zu lesen, kann ich ehrlich sagen dass sie viel ehrlicher und pluralistischer war als die Presse in den USA und EU heute.

Joseph Goebbels oder Edward Bernays können sich den Grad der Ausgereiftheit der modernen Propagandamaschinen nicht vorgestellt haben.

Wenn die USA das macht, kann man dann nicht annehmen, dass andere Regierungen das auch tun? Machen die Russen das gegen westliche Führer?

Ich glaube dass alle Regierungen solche Sachen versuchen. Was die USA aber so einzigartig macht ist die Kombination einer phänomenalen Arroganz und ein Multi-Milliarden-Dollar Budget.

Der US-”Tiefenstaat” besitzt die westlichen Medienkonzerne, welche klar die machtvollsten Medien auf der Welt sind. Die meisten Regierungen können so etwas nur innerhalb ihres eigenen Landes machen … einen politischen Opponenten verleumden oder eine öffentliche Person diskreditieren, aber sie haben nicht die Ressourcen um eine internationale strategische PsyOp-Kampagne durchzuziehen. Dies ist etwas was nur die USA kann.

Ausländische Regierungen haben also gegenüber den USA einen großen Nachteil? Absolut.

Vladimir Putin lashed out at the United States and the West for destabilizing the world order of checks and balances for its own gains. He also accused the West of inflaming the situation in Ukraine and said Russia is not interested in building an empire.

The Russian President delivered a fierce broadside aimed at the United States in a speech for the Valdai Club in Sochi, which is an informal group of scholars. He hit out at Washington for behaving without regard to the rest of the world's interests

“The system of international relations needed some changes, but the USA, who believe they were the winners of the Cold War, have not seen the need for this.” He added that the US has been trying to create the world “for their own gains." The Russian President added that because of this, regional and global security had been weakened.

During his speech, Putin used the Russian version of the Latin phrase, “Quod licet Iovi, non licet bovi”(what is allowed for god, is not allowed for cattle,) alluding to the double standards used by Washington.

US sponsoring Islamic extremism

Putin also touched on the issue of the growth of Islamic State in Syria and Iraq, and also accused the West of, "turning a blind eye," to the encroachment of international terrorism into Russia and Central Asia. Putin believes the US has played a considerable role in sponsoring the growth of Islamic extremism, using the example of Washington's funding of the Mujahidin in the Afghan-Soviet war in the 1980's, which eventually gave birth to the Taliban and Al-Qaeda.

“It never ceases to amaze me how our partners have been guilty of making the same mistakes time and again. They have in the past sponsored Islamic extremists who were battling against the Soviet Union, which took place in Afghanistan. It was because of this the Taliban and Al-Qaeda was created,” the president added.

Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) is the latest terrorist organization, which is destabilizing the world and Putin was scathing of countries that have been helping to fund the Islamist militants by buying cut price oil they are selling.

“Terrorists have been selling oil at really low prices and those countries who have been buying it and then selling it on, are financing terrorism, which will eventually come back to bite them,” the Russian President said.

Putin all for Nuclear cuts

Relations between Russia and the US have been plummeting for months; however Vladimir Putin accused the US of using the EU to further its own gains against Russia. He hit out at the numeroussanctions that have been imposed on Moscow, saying, "This was a mistake, which has a knock-on effect on everyone."

“The USA, which has implemented sanctions against Russia, is sawing at the branches, upon which they are sitting,” President Putin added.

The reduction of nuclear arsenals was another issue, which was high on the agenda for the Russian President and once again, he was not afraid of having a dig at Washington for their reluctance to cut the number of nuclear missiles. He mentioned that unfortunately many countries see the only way to preserve their sovereignty is, "To make a nuclear bomb."

The reduction in nuclear arsenals was initially proposed by the Obama administration and Putin admitted it had potential, before talks about decreasing weapons stockpiles collapsed.

"Russia has been all for the continuation of talks about the reduction of nuclear arsenals," and according to President Putin, "Moscow is ready for serious talks, but without “double standards."

Genie out of the bottle

Perhaps Putin's harshest criticism was reserved for the West's creation of color revolutions and"controlled chaos," which he a likened to "letting the genie out of the bottle," with particular reference to Ukraine.

"We have been trying to discuss the Ukraine issue with the EU for a long time, but we were told this was none of our business. They then put two countries against each other, which has led to countless destruction of infrastructure. When I asked why did they do this, they just shrug their shoulders and don’t have an answer," Putin added.

President Putin made reference to the ‘Bear’ defending its territory to take a swipe at the US for its continued encroachment towards Russia’s territory. “He is considered the owner of the Taiga, but he, I know for a fact, does not want to go to a different climatic zone, as it is uncomfortable for him there. However, he will not give it to anyone else; I think that this should be clear,” he said.

The Russian President said that there is no truth whatsoever in claims from the West that Russia is interested in empire building and that Moscow is looking to destabilize the world order. With relations between Russia and the West at a very low ebb, Putin also hinted Russia will look to develop allies further afield.

"Russia has made its choice – we want to develop our economy and develop democratic values. We work with our counterparts in the Shanghai Cooperation, the BRICS union for example. We want our opinions to be respected likewise. We all need to be cautious to not make hasty and dangerous steps. Some of the players on the global front have forgotten about the need for this," he said in another barb directed at Washington.
